The WWF Junior Heavyweight Championship was a professional wrestling title which was officially recognized by WWF and controlled by New Japan Pro-Wrestling between 1978 and 1986.
In 1965/10, Paul DeGalles, billed as a World Junior Heavyweight Champion, was brought into the Pittsburgh territory, where the WWWF talents were featured. Johnny DeFazio, a local star, defeated DeGalles on 1965/10/15 to win the title.
After several years of inactivity, the title was brought back for the the working agreement between WWF and New Japan. Fujinami Tatsumi defeated the champion Carlos Jose Estrada on 1978/1/23 at Madison Square Garden. With the newly-won championship, which became a premier junior heavyweight title, Fujinami became the pioneer of the weight division in Japan.
