The NWA International Heavyweight Championship was a singles title controlled by All Japan Pro-Wrestling and sanctioned by Pacific Wrestling Federation. It is one of the three titles that were unified into the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship in 1989.
In 1972, the Momota family presented the old International Heavyweight Championship belt to Giant Baba, who had recently started All Japan.
All Japan decided to sanction a world heavyweight championship with the belt. After completing a series of matches with eight wins and two draws, Giant Baba was presented the belt and recognized as the first champion. Soon after, sanctioning body Pacific Wrestling Federation was founded with Lord James Blears as the president.
The title was unified with International and United National heavyweight championships by Jumbo Tsuruta into the Triple Crown Heavyweight Championship on 1989/4/18.
