All Asia Heavyweight Championship was created by Japan Pro-Wrestling Association in 1955 with Rikidōzan as the first champion.
After Rikidōzan's death in 1963/12, the title became inactive. It was reinstated by the JPWA in 1968/11 with Ōki Kintarō as the champion.
It was again inactive after the JPWA closed in 1973. However, New Japan Pro-Wrestling announced the creation of its own Asia Heavyweight Championship in 1976. All Japan Pro-Wrestling immediately reinstate the original version with Ōki, who held it until 1977/10 when he lost to Giant Baba.
Baba, who never defended the title, returned it to Ōki in 1981 in exchange with the latter's NWA International Heavyweight Championship.
